Central Reserve Police Force: Guardians of internal unity

The Central Reserve Police Force, which has been specifically tasked to deal with all internal security issues consequent to the submission of its recommendations by the Group of Ministers set up in April 2000, and acceptance of the same by the Cabinet Committee on Security on 11 May 2001, has been at the forefront in tackling all internal security problems with the alacrity and professionalism they warrant. Increasingly, the Centre and the State Governments have been relying on this versatile force for varied duties ranging from counter-insurgency in the North East to fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, and doggedly combating the Maoist menace, determined to exterminate the entire Maoist rank and file well before the deadline of 31 March 2026. With an enviable reputation for being impartial and unbiased in the performance of its duties, the CRPF has been much in demand across the country for the smooth conduct of elections, as its personnel are known to brook no interference in polls. The descent of peace in states like Punjab, Mizoram, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya — which were highly volatile years back — was largely due to the pertinacious and indefatigable spirit of CRPF personnel.
