Higher education is vital for democracy

What do I want to be when I grow up?

The value and the worth of a college education have been written at length in articles and editorials in The Daily Gazette recently. To me, no education is ever wasted. Reading and writing is a basic need for being a good citizen as well as the capacity to discern fact from fiction; form an informed opinion and possess personal ethical values.

Social mobility comes with higher education. Life self-management comes with higher education. A more productive workforce comes with higher education. An increased life span comes with higher education by at least seven years -- who would not want that?

Parents think of prosperity........
