Inflation rebate could backfire on Hochul
Gov. Kathy Hochul’s inflation checks that appear to be encouraging us to vote for her in the next election, yet the irony is that these checks will be federally taxable income and will help fund President Trump’s federal budget.

Plastic fear in Hudson source is overblown
Since I am 92 years old but still have a great mind. I would like to make some comments about your Oct. 5 front page article, “Plastics found in Hudson’s source.” I’m sending this letter we “old-timers” call “mail.”
I am a polymer chemist with 28 U.S. patents who worked for GE for 37 years. I am a very strong conservationist. I cannot believe anyone should worry about 54 ppm of microplastics in “Lake Tear of the Clouds.”
It’s called a lake but is only about a 3- to 4-acre pond. I have hiked it twice and stayed overnight. I agree it’s beautiful, but the researchers would have spent money better by determining how many beer cans and bottles and lunches there are in this natural........
