Hope planning costs improve local library
I welcomed the article in the July 29 Gazette, (“Library’s planning initiative advances,”) about the strategic planning process at the Schenectady County Public Library. I think this process is important for the library, especially the community survey.
Widespread publicity will enhance the probability that many people will complete the survey, especially people who do not normally use the library.
However, the cost of $22,000 for the strategic planning process as stated in the article is incorrect.
According to the minutes of the April 15 meeting of the Library Finance Committee, a maximum of $35,000 was recommended to be spent.
This amount was later raised to “just about $40,000” (because of certain options) at the April 24 library board of trustees meeting. Although this new amount was not reported in the minutes of this meeting, I attended the meeting.
So, we have $22,000, $35,000 or “just about $40,000” as the total for the strategic planning process. Does the library not know the price for this process or is it trying to hide the true........
