Trump tariffs driving up energy prices

Regarding the Aug. 15 article, (“National Grid bills to jump $600 a year,”) on National Grid increases. We all seem to be seeing a large (20% in some cases) increase in our gas and electric bills. Some would have us believe it is the fault of our current governor.

However, the real reason for the increase is much simpler than that. The Trump administration has imposed a 10% tariff on Canadian energy resources, which includes electricity imported from Canada.

New York state imports a significant amount of energy, including electricity from Canada. While New York also gets natural gas from other states, particularly Pennsylvania, a significant portion of its natural gas supply comes from Canada.

Based on the current information available, natural gas imported from Canada to New York state is........
