Bishop joins the ranks of tone-deaf leaders

I learned during weekend Mass that incoming Albany Bishop Mark O’Connell will receive a gift for his private chapel: a gold tabernacle costing close to $50K, funds that are being sought from religious leaders of the diocese.

Such a remarkably generous gesture when area SNAP recipients are suffering from funding cuts resulting from the government shutdown. And while St. Clare’s retirees are in court, seeking pension relief due to actions of the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese.

President Trump has his monster-sized ballroom. And Albany’s new bishop, a golden tabernacle. Tone-deaf “leadership” from Washington to Albany.

Urge Albany to pass bill to cut plastic use

Microplastics are damaging our health. And they never biodegrade.

If that isn’t enough to convince the state Assembly to pass a bill aimed at reducing single-use plastic packaging, something is very wrong.

But so far, special interest lobbying has apparently been more convincing.

A recent report shows lobbyists fighting the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (PRRIA) outnumbered lobbyists supporting the bill by more than 4 to 1 in the legislative session that ended in June.

The state Senate has approved the bill twice,........
