Look hard to find the truth, solutions

With problems, often there is an easy stage and then a harder stage. Same with President Trump’s work in the Middle East.

We can congratulate him for a cease fire and a release of prisoners. Now the harder stage begins: What’s next?

The same can be said for local hunger. We can gather food at schools and churches, as we do at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scotia. In October, we will be collecting over 500 items to give to Sycamore Collaborative. Many of us have signed up to serve the Thanksgiving dinner giveaway done by Concerned for the Hungry in November.

Although each of these events takes time and effort, this is the easy part. The hard part is solving the reasons for poverty and food insecurity that I see at the food pantry each week. How is it that hard-working folks cannot provide food for their families? Wages too low? Prices too high? Both true.

Speaking of truth. It is hard to come by at this time. We’ve heard that the truth will set us free, but whose truth?

Who do we believe? Do you believe the politicians who get paid in a shutdown, blame others, won’t negotiate, and half of them are away from their job while the country waits for them to open it up? Or do you believe the people losing their jobs, some experts, with no rhyme or reason? People who protect and serve us. Open our parks and services.

What’s next? The real truth — look hard for it.
