Trump making flawed decisions about D.C.

I was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in a nearby suburb.

Growing up, I was fortunate to see many exhibits at Smithsonian museums and art galleries and attend productions at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Were these experiences life-changing? No, but they were educational and life-enhancing, so much so that I have been a contributor to the Smithsonian for years.

The Smithsonian provides views into American history, both triumphs (flight and space exploration) as well as tragedies (Civil War and slavery).
