GUEST COLUMN: A call for solidarity

On February 15, a poll was deployed on local social media pages asking, “Who would you rather have babysit your children?”

The two options were “Nazis” or “Transgenders.” Nazis were selected 2:1 over Transgenders.

This is atrocious and disconcerting.

We have neighbors who believe that white supremacy, misogyny and heteronormativity are valid community values.

We also see in social media a steady and alarming increase in engagement that overtly manifests racism, xenophobia and religious marginalization (Islamophobia, antisemitism and others).

Discrimination has found its place in our daily lives. It impedes the ability of many in our communities to live safely and free of harm as each of us knows we are in our cultural, sexual, ethnic, racial, religious and gender humanities.

It is well known that the algorithms that govern online platforms feed our histories with content that supports our biases and does little to challenge our political perspectives and........
