When it seems as if it’s becoming ever more difficult to get public officials to admit conflicts of interest and to remove themselves from positions of influence on votes, it’s refreshing that a member of the Planning Board in Cairo is planning to recuse himself from an upcoming vote on a cell tower being proposed for the street on which he lives.

The town of Cairo in Greene County is considering a proposal to allow Bell Atlantic to construct a 50-foot cell phone tower on town property along Ira Vail Road.
