EDITORIAL: Local elections are closest to what matters

It’s a good day to be an American because you get to have a say today in who makes the decisions on myriad issues that directly affect your life.

For those who haven’t voted in early elections the past 10 days, this is your final chance to vote in person or to mail in your absentee ballots.

The reason why we say it’s a particularly good day is because this year features almost exclusively local elections for municipal and county seats.

Depending on where you live and what political seats became available this year, you’ll see elections on the ballot for town supervisor, city mayor, town board and city council, highway superintendent, town clerk, town justice, Family Court justice, county supervisor or legislator, district attorney, county coroner and in some places maybe a library trustee or two.
