EDITORIAL: Hendrickson/ Whitney legacy still being written
Throughout their lifetimes, Marylou Whitney and her husband, John Hendrickson, made significant contributions to society, culture, charity and thoroughbred racing in Saratoga.
But it’s deep in the Adirondack Mountains where they could next leave their mark.
Among the many properties owned by Whitney, who died in 2019, and Hendrickson, who died last year, is more than 36,000 acres of mountains, lakes and forest near Long Lake that is considered a prime location for preservation.
At issue now is how best to preserve the property for future generations while also honoring Hendrickson’s wishes to have the sale of the land benefit the community.
