EDITORIAL: Engage citizens in filling City Council vacancy
Sixteen months.
That’s how long Schenectady residents will have to go without having an elected a councilman serving in one of the seven at-large Schenectady City Council seats.
When Councilman Joseph Mancini resigned his seat on the council earlier this week, citing health reasons, he left with more than two years remaining on his term.
Because of state election rules and deadlines, residents won’t be able to vote on his replacement until next November’s general election.
In the meantime, the remaining six members of the City Council will appoint his replacement, who will serve until the end of next year. Voters next November will elect........
