EDITORIAL: Consider adding dangerousness standard for bail
Whenever state lawmakers come up with legislation that has the word “Protect” in the title, it’s usually because someone or something that needed protection didn’t get it.
One such example is Amanda Thompson, a mother of four from Buffalo.
On July 17, her ex-boyfriend, Rickey Crouch, showed up at her home, where he shot her in the neck and chest on her front porch. She died at the scene. Crouch was a paroled murderer who was under parole supervision when he was arrested on domestic violence charges and released, according to media reports.
That’s just one of many potential examples.
If ever there was a need for a law with the word “Protect” in the title, this is the time........
