EDITORIAL: Amazon incentives could prove to be profitable for region
What kind of public official in their right mind would give $75 million in tax breaks and incentives to a company that is projected to have $80 billion in net income this year? The kind of public official that wants the construction jobs, long-term jobs, property tax and sales tax revenue that the company could bring to the community.
And if the company doesn’t get the incentives, it’s likely to build its project elsewhere, leaving those frugal public officials with no new jobs and no new tax revenue to support the local economy, the school district, municipal services and to help offset the taxes that residents currently pay.
That’s why as absurd as it seems for local........
