THERE are a range of compelling reasons to believe that Katie Simpson would be alive today if PSNI officers had carried out their duties properly during previous investigations into the conduct of her murderer, Jonathan Creswell.

The findings of the latest review into the Creswell case, which was carried out by the Police Ombudsman and released earlier this week, represent another damning indictment of the PSNI’s performance, and deserve to be regarded with the utmost seriousness.

Ms Simpson (21), a talented showjumper, died in 2020 just under a week after being admitted to Altnagelvin hospital in Derry in what should have been immediately treated as highly suspicious circumstances.

Instead, police officers shamefully neglected to consider the sequence of events in a professional way, and bizarrely managed to conclude,........
