House Republicans’ campaign arm adds 7 districts to list of targets
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) on Monday added seven districts to its list of targets, as the GOP works to hang on to its majority in the lower chamber this November.
The NRCC, which works to elect House Republicans, added Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, Florida’s 14th and 22nd, Louisiana’s 6th, Missouri’s 5th, Ohio’s 1st and Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District to its target list. The list now includes 36 districts held by Democrats.
All seven additions were impacted by redistricting in their respective states. In Louisiana, for instance, the state Legislature redrew its congressional map after the Supreme Court ruled its addition of a second majority-Black district was an illegal racial gerrymander.
Rep. Cleo Fields (D-La.) represents the newly redrawn 6th District in the Pelican State. But the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the race there as “solidly” in the GOP column, with Fields facing........
