Trump says he will sign an order to pay DHS employees

President Trump said Thursday that he will sign an order to pay all Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees as the shutdown reaches its 48th day.

Trump shared the order in a Truth Social post and continued to put the blame on congressional Democrats for the lack of DHS funding.

“I will soon sign an order to pay ALL of the incredible employees at the Department of Homeland Security,” he wrote. “Their families have suffered far too long at the hands of the Extreme Liberal ‘Leaders,’ Cryin’ Chuck Schumer and Hakeem ‘High Tax’ Jeffries.

“Nevertheless, help is on the way for our Brave and Patriotic Public Servants who have continued to work hard and do their part to protect and defend our Country,” he said.

The president made a similar move last week, when he signed an order to pay Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) employees who have been working without pay. It came after lines at airports grew increasingly longer and workers were calling out.

TSA, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Coast Guard and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, along with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, all fall under DHS. Only the two immigration enforcement agencies have been paid during the shutdown, with the One Big Beautiful Bill having covered their salaries.

“Republicans are UNIFIED, and moving forward on a plan that will reload funding for our FANTASTIC Border Patrol and Immigration Enforcement Officers,” he wrote.

He criticized Democrats for being “fully and 100% committed to the Radical Left Policy of Open Borders and Zero Immigration Enforcement.”

A bipartisan Senate bill has set up a two-step path to ending the shutdown, and it’s now in the House’s hands. It would fund a big chunk of the department, excluding ICE and Border Patrol. The president called for Republicans to present him a bill by June 1 that would keep ICE and CBP funded.
