Rep. Andrew Garbarino of New York was selected late Monday evening as the new chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee by the House Republican Steering Committee.

The New York Republican is set to replace Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., who resigned from Congress to take a job in the private sector. Green stepped down Sunday.

Garbarino won out over three other candidates for the panel’s chairmanship—Reps. Clay Higgins of Louisiana, Michael Guest of Mississippi, and Carlos Giménez of Florida.

“I am honored to have earned the trust and confidence of my colleagues to lead the House Committee on Homeland Security,” Garbarino
