Ridiculous Oscars Rule Perfectly Explains Hollywood’s Downfall

In the film industry, there are few accomplishments more prestigious than winning an Oscar. Outside of the film industry, the Oscars are increasingly recognized as an exercise in self-congratulation. 

The Best Picture category provides a perfect confirmation of such public perception. What makes a Best-Picture-worthy movie? These days, if you want a serious chance at winning, you probably shouldn’t have too many white people on screen. Unless they’re women. Or lesbians. Or missing a leg. That’s because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in all their wisdom, established so-called “inclusion thresholds” for Best Picture nominees in September 2020.
