Rather than enjoying her vacation abroad, liberal Los Angeles Times columnist Jackie Calmes spent her precious days plugged into America’s news cycle – and then wrote about it. Lame, I know. 

It happened to be a busy news week, with anti-ICE riots exploding throughout Los Angeles, Trump and Musk feuding, and Trump’s parade honoring the military. Of course, Calmes lamented all these events as evidence of America’s rapid descent into authoritarianism, which is flatly absurd.
