Swindon Town banish ghosts again with massive FA Cup victory
Ian Holloway has been talking about how damaging the Accrington Stanley defeat was, but the FA Cup win at Rotherham United could banish any lingering doubt.
It was the perfect end to a wonderful afternoon for Swindon. Darren Oldaker’s Cruyff-turn and drilled shot into the bottom corner gave them a much-deserved victory and a moment of pure joy for everyone in attendance.
The 846 away fans made up more than a quarter of the attendance and a much larger proportion of the noise all afternoon, and it was absolute bedlam in the stand. On the bench, it was very similar as everyone jumped up, with Filozofe Mabete sprinting across the pitch to get involved in the carnage on the far side. He got a booking that his manager was not pleased with, but, secretly, I doubt he will care much.
