Sam Parkin and Harry Morris - Swindon Town's best debuts

With the start of the season comes many new Swindon Town players looking to make a strong first impression, which previous stars have managed just that.

Princewill Ehibhatiomhan got off to a great start at Cardiff City on Tuesday night, and Darren Oldaker netted on his home debut, but who has managed to get fans excited right from the off?

Sam Allen, the Town Secretary manager for many years on either side of World War One, would have a very good claim to have made the best Swindon signing of all time. If eyebrows were raised at his paying £110 for a reserve player from Swansea Town, it was to work out at just 50p a goal when Harry Morris left Swindon for Clapton Orient. Allen’s judgement was quickly justified when Morris became the first player to score a Football League hat-trick on his debut for the club.

The Monday Adver contained no details of the goals, possibly because this would have been covered in the Football Pink, and it merely comments on Morris as having led the line with dash and being a worthy replacement to Frank Richardson.

The Saturday Adver noted that the first goal in a 5-1 victory over Southend United came as a result of a Denyer centre being deflected in by the gentlest of touches by the head of Morris. He was not known as either a great header or having a great shot, but he ended the season with 47 League goals, a record which stands to this day, and his career total of 229 goals in 279........
