Swindon residents cheer on Great Western Hospital staff after tribunal

An former hospital chief executive’s behaviour being labelled as “bullying” has led to other Swindonians sharing their stories.

Mark Hemphill resigned in July 2022 from Great Western Hospital after struggling to deal with responsibilities that were not part of his job contract and unsuccessfully applying to retire.

A tribunal found that he had faced a constructive unfair dismissal from his role and that there was evidence of a negative attitude towards him.

GWH appealed against the judgement’s wording which implicated Kevin McNamara in bullying the ex-employee, but this attempt was dismissed, much to Mr Hemphill’s relief.

Here’s what you had to say on the matter:

Andy Vater said: “Well done sir, you did this. Get up, stand up, stand up for your right, don’t give up the fight. Good man.”

Laine Avery said: “Very well done.”
