Swindonians shared their experiences with private dentists and the frustration with the lack of NHS options in the area.

The Adver asked if any readers had been forced to go private due to long waitlists for NHS dentists.

You voiced your views, criticised the costs of private care, and revealed that some had pulled their own teeth out after being unable to get an appointment.

Charlotte Parkman said: “Don’t go private with your ex-NHS dentist, you'll get much better service elsewhere. I highly recommend BUPA in Old Town.”

Kevin Young replied: “True. Everyone thinks going private is getting better care but if they were an NHS one before, you're just paying more for lesser skilled dentists.”

Christoper Liston said: “I pulled my own out when the gums resided, no appointments and too much money.”

Kay Horsley said: “I was kicked off the NHS patient list because I didn't attend a appointment for over six months - during Covid lockdown.”

Pete Bonadio said: “I've not seen a dentist since 1983.”

Lisa Anns said: “I've not seen a dentist since 2009, I have stubs in my mouth from where my teeth have snapped off, when I was younger, my dentist saved all my fillings until I was 16.

“I'm now 58 and my fillings are failing, and as a carer, I cannot afford private. I went to the emergency dentist........
