Swindon Disease: Community shares pain over Mesothelioma
A moving ceremony in Queen’s Park last month brought the Swindon community together to remember those lost to mesothelioma.
The event, which marked Mesothelioma Awareness Day, saw current and former mayors of Swindon gather with grieving families and those affected by the aggressive asbestos-related cancer.
Attendees released white doves in the Mesothelioma remembrance garden, a symbolic gesture that touched many and sparked heartfelt reactions online.
Mesothelioma, known by some as the "Swindon Disease", is a rare and deadly cancer linked to asbestos exposure.
Swindon’s industrial history, especially its railway heritage, has left the town with a legacy of suffering.
Asbestos was commonly used in railway works.
