Swindon bus station: Mixed reactions to Fleming Way reopening
News of the long-awaited opening date for the £33 million redevelopment of Fleming Way sparked a lot of discussion among Adver readers.
The bus boulevard will open on Sunday, August 31, after closing in September 2022 for work to be carried out on the lowering of Fleming Way and other significant changes.
The upgraded site will feature bus shelters with extra space to allow for accessibility for those in wheelchairs, as well as wireless charging, solar panels and digital screens with real time information for departures.
More than 181 trees and 23,000 plants and bushes have been planted with the aim of giving improvements to town centre visitors.
Here’s what you had to say on the matter.
Adam Archer said: “I really want someone to hear Boulevard of Broken Dreams playing when they cut the ribbon, it would make my day.”
Mike Mcaulay said: “Welcome to an empty town.”
Steve Bowles said: “A new bus station doesn’t change the run down town centre.”
Donald Rawlings said: “Now all we need is some shops.”
