Sadness and experiences shared after baby's death at GWH
THE death of a six-day-old baby girl in Swindon being ruled as neglect following gross failings in hospital maternity care led to people sharing their condolences and other experiences on the same ward.
Mabel Williams was born on September 4, 2023, at Great Western Hospital, following what was described as a period of ‘inadequate’ maternity care.
She died on September 10 after suffering a brain injury resulting from a lack of oxygen to the brain.
An inquest held at Avon Coroner’s Court found there were missed opportunities to prevent the tragedy and that neglect was a contributing factor in Mabel’s death.
Speaking after the inquest, a Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson apologised and said ‘lessons have been learnt’ since Mabel’s death.
