Readers react to Swindon Oasis Leisure Centre plan approval
News of the council approving plans to rebuild the Oasis Leisure Centre and refusing the proposal for 700 nearby flats sparked a lot of discussion among Adver readers.
At a lengthy council meeting on Tuesday evening, the borough’s planning committee approved of SevenCapital’s revamp - which will include the listed dome and pool but demolish the sports hall to add a new ‘dry side’ with a café, a gym, an indoor crazy golf course and a ten-pin bowling alley.
The developer had also submitted plans to build eight tower blocks on the site and two large industrial buildings, to be used for manufacturing, logistics or as data centres across the road, of which the former was rejected and the latter approved.

Paul Woolf said: “Hopefully this time people will use it so it doesn’t close again.
“It was always busy, I used it with my daughter at least once a week and had to queue for half an hour every time to get in! It’s not that hard to run a small business like this. It should have been nationalised and reopened immediately.”
