Reaction to possible e-bike and e-scooter crackdown

News of a possible clampdown on illegal scooters and e-bikes in Swindon sparked a lot of debate online.

Illegal scooters and e-bikes in Swindon could be the subject of a stricter clampdown after demands have been made to the council.

Demands have been made to the council and, if these are supported, the local authority will be directed to request the government to take a much stricter line on both seizing illegal e-bikes and scooters and stopping sales loopholes which sees powerful, non-street legal machines being ridden on the public roads.

“They have GPS geo-fencing and tracking that will stop the scooters electric motor if you go into a no ride zone (which can be either permanent or temporary) and they are too heavy to scoot without the motor beyond a few yards and I can walk/push it faster.

“You can only park in allowed areas (won't let you end the ride if in a no parking/no riding zone or if its not suitable or parking area full). I have seen some dumped but the user will be........
