The possibility of a canal returning to Swindon has received mixed reactions.

The Wilts and Berks Canal Trust welcomed Swindon Borough Council’s rejection of plans to build 707 flats near the Oasis Leisure Centre, citing concerns that the development did not fully support the protection and reinstatement of the historic canal route.

The trust believes the canal could become a valuable community asset and part of a wider green and wildlife corridor across Swindon.
