How Swindon residents would improve Penhill with new funding
Penhill being picked as a ‘trailblazer neighbourhood’ has sparked discussion about how best to spend the share of £20m to improve the area.
The recently-announced Spending Review saw 25 parts of the UK which had been “left behind” or ignored” included in this new investment scheme that aims to “lead the way in community-led regeneration and renewal”.
Here’s what you had to say on the matter.
Andy Smith said: “Yay more giant plant pots.”
Sandie Rowlands said: “I bet it’s solar panels.”
Commenter ‘Swindon Foodie Guy’ said: “It’s great news that an area of Swindon is part of a neighbourhood investment scheme, but what are they actually going to do? Where is the money going to be spent? On what?”
Council leader Jim Robbins replied: “We need to work with Penhill residents to make sure we deliver community-led regeneration.
“We’re working with the government at the moment to get more details on how the funding will work and will start engagement with Penhill residents as soon as we can!”
Commenter ‘Stovepipe’ suggested: “One thing you could try is to make Penhill Drive a one-way system - one lane for buses, bicycles, scooters etc - that way it's a start into getting residents to feel safer to get out on their chosen mode of transport.........
