Excitement and caution over plans for new Speedway site
Excited and sceptical Adver readers reacted to the first officially-submitted plans for a new Speedway stadium on Swindon’s outskirts.
Wiltshire Council has validated Swindon Motorsports’ application to build the new facility near Studley Grange and Junction 16 of the M4.
It includes plans for a speedway arena and karting track, refreshment and recreation areas, a complex of business units, and flexible parking.
The facility would be the new home for the Swindon Robins who have not been able to race at Abbey Stadium since the 2019 season ended.
The council’s planning committee will make a final decision about the proposal in the near future.
Here’s what you had to say on the matter.
Bill Dalgliesh said: “Fingers crossed.”
Adrian Winters said: “Really hope so! And as someone else suggested get some sidecar meetings, F1 Brisca stock car and maybe even banger meetings, would draw a lot of interest, would be amazing.”
Steven Thomas said: “It will never get off the ground.”
