"No one cares" Parents have their say over SEND problems

Parents protesting outside the Swindon council’s offices sparked a lot of debate.

The silent protest, part of the national ‘Every Shoe Tells A Story’ campaign, saw parents gather in Euclid Street to highlight what they say is a "broken system" that is failing children in need of special educational support.

Each pair of shoes was said to represent a child whose education has been disrupted or denied due to a lack of suitable provision.

According to Louise Whyburd: "80 shoes in total were placed today.

"Not all who have been failed were able to attend."

Hayley Conduit replied: "Parents of the hundreds of failed children had to be at work, are forcibly at home educating their children, or their families are so burnt out and traumatised by this crisis that they cannot attend these things.

"We’re putting on a united front.

"Our families cry enough, but in private, because it seems no one cares about our children.

"I hope you have an evening without tears as we’re all at home comforting our failed children after an emotional day."
