Councillor leader: Choice between the environment and the economy is a false choice.
Torfaen was one of the first councils in Wales to declare a climate and nature emergency. We can see the impact of climate change and the loss of biodiversity around the world, so it’s right to act locally to cut emissions and give future generations a chance.
But declaring an emergency alone is not enough, so I was determined that we did two things.
Firstly, that we took real action to cut carbon emissions and help nature by increasing biodiversity.
Secondly, I was keen to take actions which show the choice that’s sometimes presented between the environment and the economy is a false choice. If you take the right measures, you can benefit both, creating jobs and saving money.
I’ve seen several of these win-win........
