Hundreds protest at city centre against 'Starmer's Digital ID' plan
Cardiff city centre saw a wave of protest on Saturday October 25, as hundreds of demonstrators rallied against the UK government's proposed digital identification system, dubbed “Starmer’s Digital ID” by critics.
The protest, which began near Queen Street and spread through the Hayes, drew attention to growing public concern over privacy, surveillance, and civil liberties.
Activists distributed leaflets titled “Digital ID: Is This the End to All Our Rights and Liberties?”, warning that the system could centralise personal data, including medical records, financial information, and social media activity, into a single digital profile.
Many fear this could lead to increased state monitoring and exclusion of vulnerable groups without reliable access to digital devices.
