EastEnders star dies aged 88 as BBC soap pays tribute to 'kind' actor
EastEnders has paid tribute to soap star Tony Caunter, who played Roy Evans, following his death at the age of 88.
He died only eight days after his beloved wife of 63 years, Fran.
Caunter played the role from 1994 to 2003, with the car dealer becoming the love interest of Pat Butcher, played by Pam St Clement.
The couple later married as part of the BBC soap's storyline.
A statement from Caunter’s family to the PA news agency said: “It is with enormous sadness that we bring the curtain down on our wonderful and hugely loved father, Tony Caunter, who died peacefully yesterday evening, just eight days after his beloved wife of 63 years, Fran, also passed away.
It is with great sadness........
