Summer has barely started in the mountains of Wyoming, and already, Grand Teton National Park search and rescue teams are staying busy with a record-breaking number of rescues for this time of year at the famous Delta Lake.

As of June 23, park rangers had conducted five rescues at Delta Lake, an overwhelmingly popular turquoise lake reached by a strenuous hike. On three of those rescues, the park service partnered with Teton County Search and Rescue and used its helicopter. Lower-leg injuries necessitated several of the rescues, park spokesperson Emily Davis told SFGATE in a phone interview Thursday.

Years past have seen fewer rescues during the same time period: The park recorded two rescues there in both 2025 and 2024, and none in 2023 and 2022. 

“Year to date, this is the most rescues ever from Delta,” Davis said.
