The envelope containing a reminder that it was now time to book my next mammogram sat on my desk for a good few weeks before I decided to suck it up and book the appointment (had it really been two years already?!).

I dutifully called the local number provided to me by Ontario Health Cancer Care Ontario, only to be told that as a result of the cyberattack on TransForm last fall, the local Ontario Breast Screening Program is currently unable to make new appointments.

I was told to call back in March in the hope that things were back on track by then.

After breathing a sigh of relief that I could now delay that experience in good conscience, I then reflected on the fact that the attack actually happened months ago and was still having a huge impact, no doubt on thousands of individuals in need of far more than a regular screening.

The fact that the organization which had been attacked was TransForm niggled by brain a little bit and then I remembered that way back in 2018 I had been curious about this organization and had squirrelled away a little information.

This week I happened to read a Windsor Star article discussing TransForm’s refusal to hold open board meetings, despite the fact that it is a taxpayer-funded organization.

In case you’re not familiar with it, TransForm is the IT provider in charge of cybersecurity at five Ontario hospitals, including the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA).
