Meta has permanently disabled cameras on thousands of smart glasses over privacy light tampering

The company estimates less than 0.1% of all glasses sold were affected, but with 7 million units sold in 2025 alone, that puts the number in the thousands

Meta $META has permanently disabled the cameras on thousands of its smart glasses after detecting that users had physically altered or destroyed the LED indicator light that signals when the device is recording, according to Semafor.

Meta said the enforcement action covers fewer than one in a thousand of all Meta glasses ever sold. With 7 million pairs sold in 2025 alone, that figure puts the number of affected devices in the thousands. Those users will be left with glasses that........
