Cooling Down Summer Depression: 5 Tips for Managing SAD

It may be due to its catchy acronym, widespread coverage in mainstream media, or the fact that as many as 5 percent of Americans experience it, which allows most of us to be familiar with Seasonal Affective Disorder, or “SAD” for short. When we think of SAD, though, we often think of its onset in late fall, coinciding with the falling leaves and dropping temperatures. This form of recurrent depression, which appears seasonally, is so closely linked to winter that the winter onset of this “seasonal” disorder is not even specified in some research literature (Magnusson & Boivin, 2003).

As I write about here, however, SAD is very much seasonal, which encompasses the summer season, too.

Although less common than in winter, if you find yourself dreading the late spring or summer or feel less and less like yourself and are experiencing trouble sleeping, little appetite, restlessness, agitation, anxiety, and even aggression, you may consider speaking to a qualified professional who can help determine........
