Anger is a normal and can spur you into positive action, however it can also lead to unhealthy aggression.

Assuming others have negative intent can fuel your anger.

Intentionally trying to see others as complex human beings can help soothe your anger.

There is a powerful quote attributed to Buddha, "Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die."

This article provides you with an opportunity to start reflecting on how anger shows up in your life and how you can practice some coping strategies to help you channel your anger into healthy action.

Recognize what fuels anger.

Many things in your daily life can make you to feel angry, from minor inconveniences to major injustices around the world. According to the American Psychological Association, anger is an emotion characterized by tension in response to perceived injustice (e.g., feeling devalued), frustration, and/or real or imagined injury.

Anger can spur you into action to right a wrong. For example, people continually speed down your street when there are children playing outside. Your anger at that situation may lead you to rally your neighbors, gather signatures, and advocate for speed bumps to be placed on your street during a local township meeting.
