3 Reasons Some People Are Ashamed to Admit They Use AI

Some people worry that AI makes their accomplishments feel less authentic.

AI use can threaten people's identities, but it does not have to.

People may fear being plied up on by others and shamed for using AI.

This past week, a counseling client of mine who works for a company on the cusp of high-level breakthrough technology endeavors told me, in the strict confidence of my office, that she and her team use AI. So what, maybe you say? Well, please hear that just three months ago she said she would never use AI because, as a "coding purist", she eschewed it.

This woman is just one of many examples where I keep hearing people say something like, “I don’t use AI" or that they hate AI—but they use it. When it comes to writing with AI versus using it for coding, someone else told me just last week that a book they wrote was “100 percent human.” They then told me they were lying because they felt ashamed to admit they used AI to help them brainstorm.
