Me and Celine (Dion)

No, Celine and I are not buddies. No, I haven’t obsessed over her music for decades—or ever—or even seen her perform. No, I don’t know about her or admire her vocals (yes, amazing), her showmanship (also amazing), or even her “power ballad” genre.

So why a sudden fixation? I watched I Am: Celine Dion and drew myself in for reasons you wouldn’t expect. I relate. Maybe you do, too? In no particular order:

I watched I Am: Celine Dion because I’m a healthcare nerd and curious about SPS. I’m not a celebrity worshipper or even watcher. I was stunned and heart-warmed by the simple honesty and authenticity of another woman. The normal, growing humanity of a mother, sister, and human, struggling to do her best to accept unexpected hardships life offers. Searingly beautiful.
