Boost Your Organizational Skills

This month, we spotlight organization, one of the most visible and often misunderstood executive function skills. As a reminder, executive function skills are brain-based abilities that help us get things done. For many neurodivergent brains with ADHD, some executive function skills are big strengths while others are challenges.

Organization is “the ability to create and maintain systems for items, paperwork, electronic documents, and important tasks” (Mutti-Driscoll, 2024, p. 82). At first glance, the definition of organization sounds simple. However, for most ADHD brains, getting—and staying—organized can feel like trying to catch a moving target. And when social expectations don’t align with how our brains work, the stress can pile up fast.
