When Your Employee Tries to Outsmart You
Some employees may make it their mission to outsmart you.
Set clear boundaries and expectations while also asking questions to uncover the reasons for their actions.
Where appropriate, ask for their input and really listen to their suggestions.
Maintain accountability and reward positive behavior consistently.
Some employees are sly and cunning, and you may feel that they are trying to outsmart you. You wonder why they are so evasive, shifty, or crafty.
Interestingly, workers you perceive as sly may really be shy, reluctant to ask for better assignments or for more responsibility. They would rather be clever than pushy. They may feel left out, ignored, and not a part of what is going on around the office. They do what is asked but feel that their opinions do not count or hold much weight.
