I am writing to express my deep disappointment with Charlottetown council’s recent decision not to apply a temporary heritage designation to an important heritage property on West St. that will undergo exterior renovations.
Charlottetown is widely recognized as the Birthplace of Confederation. This distinction is not merely symbolic; it is grounded in a tangible and irreplaceable built heritage that tells the story of who we are and how this nation came to be. Our historic buildings are not obstacles to progress — they are essential to our identity and to the credibility of our claim to national significance.
