COMMENTARY: Swim Nova Scotia’s offer remains on the table to keep Acadia’s pool open

For decades, the Acadia Aquatic Centre has been a cornerstone of life in Wolfville — a place where seniors gather for aqua-fit classes, youth athletes train, families come together, and students unwind and stay active.

It’s more than a pool. It’s a critical community space that supports physical health, mental wellness, and social connection.

Now, it’s set to close June 15.

The closure will leave the community without a viable alternative for years while a new facility is planned and built.

The only remaining options are seasonal outdoor pools or restricted-access facilities on military and correctional grounds — none of which provide the access, safety, or sense of belonging this pool has long offered.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Swim Nova Scotia has presented a clear, cost-free plan to keep the Acadia pool open in the interim — a plan based on facts, collaboration, and community need.
