Daniel Alfredsson is a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. These are words I never thought I would write. 

On July 7, the Leafs announced that Alfredsson was joining head coach Jim Hiller’s coaching staff as an associate coach. The club also appointed Brad Werenka and Calder Cup champion John Gruden of the Toronto Marlies as assistant coaches. 

“Alfie” had a distinguished 18-year NHL playing career suiting up for the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. He notched an impressive 444 goals and 1,157 points in 1,246 career games. 

He is the all-time points leader in Senators history, and by a wide margin. Alfredsson registered 1,108 points as a Senator. Jason Spezza sits second on the aforementioned list, 421 points shy of Alfredsson with 687 points. Alfredsson was also the first player in the Senators modern franchise to have his jersey number (11) retired.
