Police solve just ONE in 10 burglaries carried out in Norfolk

Figures show that of 2,582 break-ins reported to the force, 2,360 went unsolved.

In two thirds of cases, officers were not even able to identify a suspect.

The county has seen a rise in both business and residential burglaries and the detection rate will raise fresh questions over the performance of the police.

It comes at a time when forces across the country are coming under growing scrutiny over their priorities, with critics accusing them of not doing enough to tackle crimes like burglary.

The issue was thrown into sharp relief by the arrest earlier this month by five armed Met Police officers of comedian Graham Linehan, who previously lived in Norwich, over three social media posts about trans issues.

Following his arrest, the prime minister Sir Keir Starmer urged the police to focus on issues that “matter most to communities”.
